A place to unwind

When the famous Mt Lyell ABT trains ran through the mountains, the West was wild. There was very little time off and the hours worked were long and hard.

This part of Tasmania is enchantingly beautiful. We are fortunate enough to be surrounded by the most amazing natural scenery, hidden bays, tranquille lakes, lush rainforests and magnificent mountain ranges

Although the west coast weather was unforgiving at times, when the sun did shine family and friends wasted no time in discovering the secluded beaches and bays, creating dozens of small communities up along the edges of Macquarie Harbour and along the coast lines such as Lettes Bay.

Many visitors aren't aware of Lette's Bays' quaint surroundings and heritage listed shacks and first impression’s from the roadside can leave one scratching their head wondering if they have the right place?

As my late grandfather use to say “Never judge a book by its cover” as you will discover once you take a few steps to the waters edge and see the beauty of Lettes Bay and everything your Salt Box Hideaway has to offer.

Built in the early 1900’s by hard working employees from the Mt Lyell Railway and Queenstown Mine, the shacks line the the waters edge and were originally built from any scrap timber and materials they could find from the railway and mine sites creating their tiny holiday homes perfect for their them and their families to enjoy swimming, fishing and making memories.

We understand the importance of taking time out to recharge, hence Salt Box Hideaways being created.

A place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Taking time to appreciate the little things and the one we love…

Thank you for choosing Salt Box Hideaway’s, we hope you create magical memories during your stay.
